Ratings :
Original AREA : here is the result of Glen Petroski and friends' efforts to keep alive the originally TAHGC sponsored AREA rating system. Keep in mind that this systems addresses all board games and not only ASL.
UK Ladder : Derek has been UK laddermeister for quite some time. Here you'll find a ladder system very similar to AREA going way back in time.
ASL Ratings : this is a very nice site with names, games and scenarios ratings. My tip : use it to store your full list of games. It will be safely kept and nicely retrieved. Also, Darry Lundy has helped me gathering games
for US circuit and I express here my gratitude for it.
ASL Scandinavian Open (ASO) : this link stores all games played during the
famous scandinavian open and rates players according to (almost) the same ELO formula I am using. This site has been a source of
inspiration for me during my project.
The game itself
MMP : the corner stone of it all. Every other effort, tiny as my own, huge as VASL, all make sense as far as MMP strives in keeping the flame. To be supported with money and gratitude. No restriction, no doubt.
VASL : play ASL on/off line using computer. This one is such a SUPERB piece of useful hack, it only deserves awe.
French Zine : the only third party I will mention. Call it a French bias of mine if you will, but check it out : you will like it !
Tournaments I have attended
ASL RING : one of the oldest, one of the best : try it ! François and his gang are great people. Villeneuve d'Asq, northern France.
GRENADIER : one of my favorites (they all are !). Free beer, bed on the spot, friendly playing. In Germany (yes, it would be tough for you to get to play German ;-) ). Christian and his crew have given it a distinct gist. T-shirt is very nice, Grenadier soup hot and delicious.
A Bridge too far : in a few years it became a reference in level of play and quality of organization. In a very nice youth hostel where you can play, sleep and drink beer. Meet Peter and his better half Elizabteh, the most gracious female asl player in Europe (well, the only, to tell you all). In Arnhem, around mid september, in time for the anniversary.
Tournoi Sud Méditerranée : in a very nice city in southern France, you will see players you usually won't in the northern circuits. It starts the eve in a restaurant : a great idea of Manu, the Tournament Director.
ASL Oktoberfest : ASL Mecca, ie, you ought to go there once in your life. Negotiate with your wife, pay whatever it takes and book your plane. Up to 10 days of ASL round the clock : a pure joy.
